Abstract:Objective To explore the efficacy of discectomy using broad easy immediate surgery (BEIS) technique under percutaneous spinal endoscope for axillary lumbar disc herniation. Methods The clinical data of 85 patients with axillary lumbar disc herniation were analyzed retrospectively, who underwent discectomy by BEIS technique under percutaneous spinal endoscope.Endoscopic working channel was established by posterolateral approach using standard BEIS technique, and the compressed nerve root and dural sac were released. The results were evaluated by lower limb visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability index (ODI).Results The operation was successfully completed in all the patients, the average operation time was 85 min (40-125 min).No complication occurred during the operation. The postoperative mean follow-up time was 12.5 months (6-29 months). The lower limb VAS score was (6.5±1.5),(1.4±1.2) and (1.0±1.4),and ODI was (48.7±11.5),(14.6±6.7) and (15.3±5.5) preoperatively,3 months and 6 months postoperatively respectively. The postoperative VAS score and ODI were significantly better than those pre-operation (P<0.01).Conclusions BEIS is a safe and effective technique for the treatment of axillary lumbar disc hemiation. It has the characteristics of comfortable operation, quick recovery and less complications.
