Abstract:Objective To explore therapeutic effects of intra-hematomal lighting a new self-designed LED (light emitting diode) lamps assisting minimally invasive evacuation for basal ganglia hematomas in elderly hypertensive patients. Methods The clinical data of 4 elderly hypertensive patients were retrospectively analyzed.By means of the new self-designed LED lamps lighting hematoma cavity, the basal ganglia hematoma was evacuated by the new procedures as subtemporal decompression straight incision, small craniotomy and small temporal gyrus cortex ostomy. Results The evacuation of hematomas lasted from 15 to 20 minutes and basal ganglia hematomas was evacuated completely. The patient's consciousness recovered from stupor on admission to awakeness one week after the surgery. The contralateral limb muscle strength recovered from grade 0 on admission to grade 2-3 half a month after surgery and to grade 2-4 half a year after surgery. Conclusions In the elderly hypertensive patients with basal ganglia hematoma,"hematoma cavity illumination" is a new concept.LED surgical lamp is a new safe and effective tool for the hematoma cavity illumination.Subtemporal decompression straight incision, small bone window craniotomy and temporal gyrus small cortical ostomy is a new surgical procedure for basal ganglia hematoma removal.
