Abstract:Objective To investigate the causes of severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) associated with pulmonary infection, and analyze therapeutic effect of early tracheotomy. Methods Clinical data of 116 severe TBI patients (GCS≤8) with early tracheotomy were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were equally divided into control group and observation group. The early tracheotomy was performed on patients in observation group 1 to 2 days after TBI, and the conventional treatment in control group. The therapeutic effects were analyzed and compared between the two groups. Results Compared with control group, the NIHSS scores decreased significantly and the overall effective rate was higher in observation group after treatment (P< 0.001). The times of antibiotic use and hospital stay were shorter in observation group than in control group (P< 0.05). The rates of complications were significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P< 0.05). Conclusions Early tracheotomy could obviously decrease the complication rate of TBI associated with pulmonary infection and improve therapeutic efficacy.
