Abstract:Objective To systematically evaluate the radioprotective effect of somatostatin analogue (SSTA) on growth hormone (GH) adenomas through meta-analysis.Methods The databases including PubMed,Cochrane Library,Google Scholar and Wiley Online were searched to collect trials about the impact of using SSTA on endocrine remission during peri-treatment period of GH adenoma by Gamma knife radiosurgery from the date of their establishment to July 2016.Study articles were read, data extracted and methodological qualities were evaluated independently by two participants.Meta-analyses were conducted by using RevMan5.3 software. Results The result of this meta-analysis showed that the endocrine remission rate of expose group patients was 57% of control group's (RR =0.57,95% CI:0.34 to 0.95),and the difference was statistically significant (P =0.03).Conclusion Currently, the limited evidence shows that SSTA may provide radioprotective effect from GH adenomas.
