Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy of the Gamma knife for hemangiopericytoma in the central nervous system. Methods The clinical data of 10 patients with hemangiopericytoma in the central nervous system treated by Gamma knife were analyzed retrospectively. There were 7 cases of WHO grade Ⅱ and 3 of grade Ⅲ. Results The mean follow-up was 29 months, ranging from 11 to 47 months. All the patients were examined by MRI for the first time after gamma knife treatment, and all the tumors shrank. Recurrence was seen in 3 cases, of which 2 were re-treated by gamma knife. There was no cranial nerve injury or brain edema after Gamma knife. Conclusion Gamma knife can be an effective and safe alternate for hemangiopericytoma in the central nervous system with good tumor control rate, especially for residual or recurrent lesions.
