Abstract:Objective To investigate the diagnosis and treatment of patients with angiomyolipomas in the central nervous system ( CNS ) . Methods Clinical data of 7 patients with angiomyolipomas in CNS were analyzed retrospectively . The intracranial angiomyolipomas in 3 patients were parasellar and cavernous sinus tumors which growed to the intrasellar and resected by surgery via frontotemporal approach. The intraspinal angiomyolipomas of 4 patients were thoracic spinal canal and epidural tumors and resected by surgery including 3 via posterior approach and 1 via lateral or chest approach. Results The total resection was achieved in 1 and subtotal resection in 2 in intracranial angiomyolipomas patients. The total resection was achieved in 1 patient, subtotal resection in 1 and partial resection in 2 in intraspinal angiomyolipomas patients. The postoperative oculomotor nerve palsy symptoms were not improved and secondary basal ganglia infarction occurred in 1 patient. The preoperative headache was improved. The improvement was observed in part of patients with physical sensory abnormalities. All the patients were followed up for 1 to 31 months and there was no residual tumor growth, oculomotor nerve and limb function deficits were recovered in different degrees. Conclusion Angiomyolipomas is a benign lesion, and could obtain good prognosis with surgical treatment even if partial resection.
