Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) in glioma, its relationship to clinical features and role in judging clinical prognosis. Methods Clinical data and mRNA microchip data of 305 glioma samples were obtained from Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA) database, and BMP4 expression was analyzed, and which was validated by REMBRANDT,GSE16011 and TCGA datasets.Kaplan-Meier survival and Cox analysis were used to estimate the role of BMP4 in judgement of prognosis. Moreover,Gene ontology (GO) was performed for analyzing the gene fanction of BMP4 positive correlation expression. Results BMP4 expression level gradually decreased with increase of pathological grade in glioma.BMP4 expression was associated with patient's Kamofsky score and isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) mutation status.Furthermore, low BMP4 expression conferred a worse survival.Additionally,GO analysis showed that BMP4 was associated with development and differentiation of glial and astrocyte cells. Conclusion BMP4 might be a tumor suppressor and also serves as a novel judgement indicator for prognosis with potential therapeutic implications in glioma.
