Abstract:Objective To explore diagnosis and treatment of central nervous system (CNS) hemangiopericytomas. Methods The clinical data of 33 patients with CNS hemangiopericytomas were analyzed retrospectively. Routine MRI showed that the tumor presented with iso-or low-intensity signals on T1WI, and iso-intensity signal or mixed signals with iso-high intensity on T2WI. Results The total tumor resection was achieved in 27 patients and subtotal in 6. Sixteen patients received postoperative radiation therapy. Pathological exam showed that the tumors originated from hemangiopericytoma cells in the meningeal mesenchymal tissues. Conclusions Lobulation sign, narrow-based dural attachment and lack of dural tail sign are commonly seen in CNS hemangiopericytomas, which is helpful to the differential diagnosis. Complete excision and postoperative radiation therapy play a special role in treatment and reducing recurrence.
