Abstract:Objective To investigate the preliminary application of VasoCT in imaging of carotid artery stents. Methods Fifteen carotid artery stenosis patients who underwent carotid artery stenting (CAS) were enrolled in this study. VasoCT was performed after stent deployment in all patients in order to show 3D images of stents and vessels. Standard algorithm image reconstruction (2563 matrix) and stent-optimized algorithm image reconstruction (2563 matrix and 5123 matrix) were done, and the images were observed using both volume rendering (VR) and maximum intensity projection (MIP). The visibility of the stents by 2D-DSA, VR and MIP imaging was evaluated by 0 to 4 scores. Results 2D-DSA imaging simply showed the stent outline. The standard algorithm image reconstruction more clearly showed the outline of the stent, but cannot show the refined structures of the stents. Stent-optimized algorithm image reconstruction clearly showed the stent and soft tissue. The stent visualization was better in MIP group than in VR group. A higher resolution reconstruction is more preferable for display defined structures. Conclusions VasoCT can clearly show the refined structures of the stents and its relationship with the artery wall. It can be used to observe the position of the stent, stent deployment, apposition of the stent margins to the arterial wall and carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque, to instruct the deployment of the stent, thus improving clinical decision-making and avoid short-and long-term complications.
