Abstract:objective To explore the influence of muscle relaxants and limb temperature on somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) and motor evoked potential ( MEP ) monitoring during surgery . Methods Clinical data of 35 patients undergoing intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring were analyzed retrospectively. According to limb temperature, the patients were divided into groupⅠ(less than 32℃) and groupⅡ(33 to 36℃). The amplitude and latency of SEP and MEP amplitude in the upper and lower limbs were analyzed and compared between the two groups. Results The SEP amplitudes in the upper and lower limbs were evidently less in groupⅠthan the groupⅡat 10, 30 and 60 min (P<0.05) but there was no difference between the two groups after 60 min (P>0.05). There was no difference in SEP latency in the upper and lower limbs between groupsⅠandⅡ(P>0.05). MEP amplitude of the upper and lower limbs in groupⅠraised slowly, reached peak at 60 min and kept high. MEP amplitude of the upper and lower limbs raised quickly and reached peak at 90 min and kept high in groupⅡ. SEP amplitude raised with the increase of muscle relaxant's administration time (P<0.05) in groupⅠ. SEP amplitude in groupⅡdid not change obviously with the increase of muscle relaxant's administration time (P>0.05). Conclusion Both the limb temperature and withdrawal time of muscle relaxants can influence the neuroelectrophysiological monitoring in brain surgery.
