Abstract:Objective To summarize the surgical outcome and complications of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) for symptomatic carotid. Methods Clinical data of 60 patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis undergoing CEA were analyzed retrospectively. The indications, outcome and prevention of complications were investigated. Results Good surgical outcome was achieved in 57 patients, evacuation was performed on 1 because of hematoma within the surgical field after surgery, contralateral hemiplegia resulting from cerebral infarction occurred in 1. One patient died of acute renal failure. The restenosis was observed in 5 patients by CTA during a follow-up period of 6 months. Conclusions CEA is a safe and effective method for carotid stenosis. Perioperative individualized treatment can reduce mortality of high-risk patients.
