Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO)in the treatment of patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)caused by seawater drowning. Methods A retrospective study was conducted to select 34 patients with severe ARDS caused by seawater drowning, including 18 patients treated with ECMO as study group and 16 patients treated with oscillatory ventilation as control group. The oxygenation indexes and prognosis of the two groups were compared. Results After 72 h of treatment, the oxygenation indexes, vital signs and survival rate in the study group were more stable than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion ECMO treatment can improve the oxygenation indexes and survival rate of patients with severe ARDS caused by seawater drowning. It is worthy of clinical promotion and ap-plication.
