Research update of the umbilical cord blood stem cells applications in the field of congenital heart disease

Abstract：With advancements in surgical techniques,some children with complex congenital heart disease(CHD)are able to survive.However,they are still faced with the severe complication of long-term heart failure.Stem cell infusion has been shown to protect cardiac function and delay the onset of heart failure.Umbilical cord blood stem cells,as an easily accessible source of stem cells,exert their protective effects on the heart by secreting exosomes that alleviate myocardial injury.This paper reviews the animal and clinical studies on the use of umbilical cord blood stem cells for cardiac function preservation,as well as the methods for stem cell delivery.
