Expert consensus on leukocyte activation and poor prognosis associated with cardiopulmonary bypass
Abstract:Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) associated with extracorporeal circulation (ECC)/cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is closely related to the occurrence of various postoperative complications and mortality in cardiovascular surgery. There is still no effective prevention or treatment method. Leukocytes and their activation play an important role in this process. This expert consensus focuses on the characteristics of leukocytes and their activation related to CPB. By integrating evidence-based medicine, it summarizes the relationship between leukocyte count and derived indicators, expression of markers of leukocyte activation, cytokines released by activated leukocytes, and other markers related to activated leukocytes with adverse outcomes of ECC.
