Abstract:Objective To analyse the learning curve of a professional extracorporeal life support or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ( ECMO) team and to provide reference for the technique promotion. Methods Center for Cardiac Intensive Care, Beijing Anzhen hospital established a professional extracorporeal life support team in September 2015. Special teaching methods were utilized and a retrospective analysis of the adult ECMO data of the first year was performed. ECMO patients were divided into three groups:from September 2015 to December 2015 as group A, from January 2016 to April 2016 as group B, from May 2016 to August 2016 as group C. ECMO time, mechanical ventilation time and ICU time were recorded and the short-term outcomes were compared. Results Base-line characteristics showed no differences. There was a trend of shortening of ECMO time. Weaning rate and hospital survival showed no statistical significances. Bleeding, infection and neurological complications reduced with time. Conclusion Establishing a professional extracorporeal life support team of adult cardiac surgery is practicable with early learning phases. Learning extensively, reviewing expe-riences regularly and amplifying the size of the study further are necessary.
