Abstract:[ Abstract]: Objective To summarize the clinical experience withsurgical treatment of pediatric cardiac tumors. Methods This is a retrospective, observational study of pediatric patients less than 18 years who underwent surgical treatment of cardiac tumor between 2009 and 2015 at Xi Jing hospital. The presentating symtoms, management strategies, pathology, and outcomes were evalua?ted. Results Over the past 6 years, 48 patients were evaluated for surgical resection of cardiac tumor. Myxoma was the most common neoplasm ( 72%) , meanwhile 60% of myxoma required surgical intervention for concerns about significant hemodynamic change. Other types of benign tumor included fibroma ( n=7) , rhabdomyoma ( n=2) and teratoma ( n=1) . Twopatients had malignant tumor, and onepatients underwent complete removal of the tumor and the other had partial removal. There was one death among patients with benign tumors. Conclusion Cardiac tumors in children are rare but can be managed aggressively with good outcomes. Patients with benign tumors hadan excellent survival and thecomplication wasmainly related to tumor location. Malignant tumors could causea high mortality rate, but surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy allowed for prolonged survival in selected patients.
