Application Effect of Acupressure Combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine Characteristic Intervention in Epilepsy Patients with Depression

Abstract：Objective To explore the application effect of acupressure combined with traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)characteristic nursing in epilepsy patients with depression.Methods A total of 90 epilepsy patients complicated with depression admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to October 2024 were selected and randomly divided into a conventional group and a TCM-combined group,with 45 cases in each group according to random number table method.The conventional group received routine nursing,while the TCM-combined group underwent acupoint massage combined with TCM characteristic nursing interventions.Both groups underwent treatment and nursing interventions for 2 months,1-month follow-up.The nursing satisfaction,incidence of adverse reactions during treatment,as well as the frequency and duration of epileptic seizures,anxiety,depression,sleep quality,self-efficacy,and quality of life were compared between the two groups before and after the follow-up period.Results After one month of follow-up,both groups showed improvements in seizure frequency,duration,and scores on the self-rating anxiety scale,Pittsburgh sleep quality index,self-efficacy scale,and epilepsy quality of life assessment scale compared to pre-intervention.Moreover,the above indicators in the TCM-combined group were all significantly better than the conventional group(all P＜0.05).The nursing satisfaction rate in the TCM-combined group was significantly higher than that in the conventional group(P＜0.05).No severe adverse reactions occurred in either group during the intervention period.Conclusion For epilepsy patients with depression,acupoint massage combined with TCM characteristic nursing can effectively alleviate anxiety and depressive symptoms,enhance self-management abilities and quality of life,reduce seizure frequency,and shorten duration,making it worthy of widespread application.
