Abstract:Objective To explore the efficacy of minocycline hydrochloride ointment combined with metronidazole in the treatment of severe periodontitis. Methods Eighty-six patients with severe periodontitis treated in the Department of Stomatology of Lianjiang County General Hospital in Fuzhou City from June 2021 to December 2023 were collected and randomly divided into a control group(n=43)and a combination group(n=43)using a random number table method. Both groups received routine treatments such as supragingival scaling and subgingival scaling. The control group was treated with tinidazole, while the combination group was treated with tinidazole combined with minocycline.Compare the improvement of periodontal, gingival saliva microbiota, and gingival crevicular fluid inflammatory factors between two groups before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the gingival bleeding index, probing depth, and plaque index of the combined group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).The detection rates of fusobacterium nucleatum, porphyromonas gingivalis, actinobacillus actinomycetes, prevotella intermedia, fusitania flexneri, and dental plaque spirochetes in the saliva of the combined group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).The levels of interleukin-1β,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin-8,interleukin-17,and matrix metalloproteinase-8 in the gingival crevicular fluid of the combined group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of minocycline hydrochloride ointment and tinidazole in the treatment of severe periodontitis can effectively improve the periodontal health status of patients, reduce salivary microbiota, and alleviate gingival crevicular fluid inflammation.
