Abstract:Objective Analyze the disease composition and trends of inpatients in the otolaryngology department of a large tertiary hospital in eastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region over the past decade. Methods The clinical data of inpatients in the otolaryngology department of a large tertiary hospital in eastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from June 1st,2013 to May 31st,2022 were collected in an anonymized manner.Based on the main diagnosis, according to the 10th edition of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems(ICD-10),the medical records were standardized and organized by using Excel 2022 software.Stratified by hospitalization years, age, gender, and ethnicity, the epidemiological descriptive analysis on the composition and changes of the top ten ear, nose, and throat diseases were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 software. Results A total of 17,367 patients'clinical data were collected, among which the top ten diseases in terms of patient numbers were chronic tonsillitis(19.39%),sudden idiopathic hearing loss(8.84%),sinusitis(8.45%),nasal septum deviation(7.45%),adenoid hypertrophy(7.39%),vocal cord polyps(5.55%),nasal bone fractures(3.82%),nasal polyps(3.56%),preauricular fistula(2.24%),and sleep apnea(2.20%).The disease spectrum has changed over the past decade, but the overall disease structure is relatively stable, with the number of patients with chronic tonsillitis basically ranking first in the disease spectrum over the years. The average age of patients is(32.44±22.59)years old, with the highest proportion of patients aged≤18 years old being the largest. The prevalence of otorhinolaryngological diseases varied among different age groups. The number of male patients(61.18%)is higher than that of females(38.82%),and chronic tonsillitis ranked first in the case number among both genders. The Mongolian ethnic group accounts for 20.95%,the Han ethnic group accounts for 74.30%,and other ethnic groups account for 4.74%.The order of diseases varies among different ethnic groups, with chronic tonsillitis ranking first. Conclusion Chronic tonsillitis is the main type of disease among hospitalized patients in the otolaryngology department of the hospital, and should be given special attention.Corresponding prevention and treatment measures should be taken, with a focus on protecting adolescent patients aged≤18 years old.Meanwhile,in conjunction with the disease spectrum, effective preventive and health care activities in otolaryngological disease should be implemented, and health medical resources should be allocated rationally.
