Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of propranolol combined with methimazole on hormone levels, bone metabolism, and oxidative stress in hyperthyroidism patients with sympathetic excitation. Methods A total of 124 hyperthyroidism patients with sympathetic excitation treated in Zhanhua District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from August 2020 to February 2024 were enrolled and randomly divided into two groups by random number table method. The control group(n=62)received methimazole alone, while the study group(n=62)received propranolol combined with methimazole. The hormone levels, bone metabolism markers, and oxidative stress responses were compared between the two groups. Results After 6 months of treatment, the study group exhibited significantly lower levels of free triiodothyronine and free thyroxine, but higher levels of thyrotropin and parathyroid hormone compared to the control group(P<0.05).Additionally,the study group showed lower levels of bonegla protein,β-crosslaps,alkaline phosphatase, and procollagen Ⅰ type N-terminal peptide compared to the control group(P<0.05).Furthermore,the study group showed lower level of malondialdehyde, but higher levels of superoxidedismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase compared to the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Propranolol combined with methimazole effectively regulates hormone levels, reduces oxidative stress, and improves bone metabolism in hyperthyroidism patients with sympathetic excitation.
