Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of simultaneous or staged bilateral total knee arthroplasty(TKA)for knee osteoarthritis(KOA).Methods A total of 120 patients with bilateral KOA,who underwent elective bilateral TKA between December 2022 and November 2023 in Dade Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were selected and were randomly divided into synchronous group(synchronous TKA)and staging group(staged TKA)with 60 cases in each group. The effects of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results The operative time and total hospital stay in the synchronous group were significantly shorter than those in the staging group, and the amount of intraoperative blood loss was significantly higher than that in the staging group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications between the two groups(P>0.05).There was no significant difference in knee mobility, hospital for special surgery(HSS),the Western Ontario and McMaster universities osteoarthritis index(WOMAC),visual analogue scale(VAS)and the MOS 36-Item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36)between the two groups before operation(P>0.05).After operation, the knee mobility,HSS,WOMAC,VAS,and SF-36 scores were significantly improved in both groups(P<0.05).At 12 months after operation, the VAS of staging group was significantly lower than that of the synchronous group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in knee mobility,HSS,WOMAC,and SF-36 scores between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion In the treatment of KOA patients, the use of simultaneous TKA treatment significantly reduced the duration of surgery and hospitalization, and has a high level of safety.
