Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of gingival retraction technique in preventing inflammatory response, filling shedding and overhang in elderly patients with wedge-shaped dental defects after filling treatment. Methods A total of 80 elderly cases of dental wedge-shaped defects admitted to Stomatological Hospital of Xiamen Medical College from September 2020 to September 2022 were selected as the research subjects. All patients were divided into an observation group and a control group, with 40 cases in each group, based on whether gingival retraction technology was used or not.The control group did not use gingival retraction technique and directly underwent filling treatment. The observation group applied gingival retraction technique before filling treatment.Compare the inflammatory response indicators before and at different time points after treatment,as well as the occurrence of filling shedding and overhang during follow-up between two groups. Results After 3 months,6 months, and 12 months of treatment, the inflammatory response indicators in both groups increased compared to before treatment. The control group showed significant differences in various inflammatory response indicators compared to before treatment(P<0.05),while the observation group showed no significant differences in individual inflammatory response indicators compared to before treatment(P>0.05).The levels of various inflammatory response indicators in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group at 3 months,6 months, and 12 months after treatment(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of filling shedding and overhang between the two groups after a 6-month follow-up(P>0.05).The incidence of filling shedding and overhang in the observation group during a 12-month follow-up were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The application of gingival retraction technique before filling treatment for elderly patients with dental wedge-shaped defects can further reduce inflammatory reactions and lower the risk of filling shedding and overhang compared to using filling treatment alone, which is worth promoting.
