Application of Protective Motivation Theory in Clinical Nursing of Elderly Patients with Primary Hypertension

Abstract:Objective To investigate the application effect of protective motivation theory in elderly patients with primary hypertension.Methods Eighty elderly patients with primary hypertension in Xiamao Central Health Center of Shaxian District in Sanming City from March 2022 to March 2023 were selected and divided into control group and study group,with 40 cases in each group.The control group received routine nursing care,while the study group received an intervention model based on the theory of protective motivation on this basis.The blood pressure,heart rate,coping strategies,compliance behavior,self-care ability,and psychological status between two groups were compared.Results After intervention,the diastolic blood pressure,systolic blood pressure,and heart rate of the study group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).In the medical coping style questionnaire of the research group,avoidance and submission were lower than those in the control group,and face scores were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The study group had higher scores on the compliance behavior and exercise of self care agency scale than the control group,while the scores on the self rating anxiety scale and self rating depression scale were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion In elderly patients with primary hypertension,adopting an intervention model based on the theory of protective motivation can effectively control their blood pressure levels,help avoid their negative coping behaviors,and improve their compliance with medical treatment,psychological state,and self-care ability.
