Comparison of Short-term Effects of Breast-conserving Surgery and Total Mastectomy in the Treatment of Breast Cancer

Abstract:Objective To compare the effects of breast-conserving surgery and total mastectomy in the treatment of breast cancer.Methods A total of 49 cases of patients with breast cancer who underwent breast-conserving surgery in Jiangyin Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from September 2018 to June 2023 were selected as the breast-conserving group,at the same periods,49 patients with breast cancer who underwent total mastectomy were selected as control group.Compare and analyze the treatment effects of the two groups,the recurrence rate and mortality rate after 9 months of postoperative follow-up,as well as the negative emotions and quality of life before and 9 months after surgery.Results All the operations were successful in this study.The surgical margin of breast-conserving group was negative.All patients received effective follow-up for at least 9 months after surgery,and there was no significant difference in the recurrence rate and mortality rate between the two groups at 9 months after surgery(P>0.05).The rate of excellent breast appearance in the breast-conserving group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).The negative emotions and quality of life scores of the two groups at 9 months after surgery were significantly better than before treatment,and the breast-conserving group was significantly better than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Breast-conserving surgery has the same short-term effect as total mastectomy in the treatment of breast cancer patients with TNM stage T1 and T2,moreover,it can improve breast aesthetics and patient quality of life,alleviate negative emotions,and is worth promoting and using.
