Abstract:Objective? To investigate the effect of long-term oral appliances (OA) treatment on the respiratory function during night sleep in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). Methods? A total of 526 patients with OSAHS admitted to our hospital from 2012 to 2018 were selected retrospectively. Seventy-one eligible patients were selected and divided into control group (42 cases) and observation group (29 cases) according to whether OA was used regularly. Sleep apnea hypopnea index (AHI), the percentage of saturation lower than 90% time account for total sleeping time (SLT90%), the longest apnea time (LAT) and lowest nocturnal oxygen saturation (LSaO2) were compared between the two groups before and after 5 years of follow-up. Results? There were no significant differences in AHI, SLT SLT90%, LAT and LSaO2 between the two groups at the beginning of follow-up (P>0.05), and there were significant differences in the above indexes at the end of follow-up (P<0.05). Conclusion? The sleep apnea symptoms of OSAHS patients tend to aggravate with age. OA treatment can effectively delay the aging deterioration.
