Hormone Level Characteristics of Male Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Complicated with Benign Thyroid Nodules
HE Wei
Abstract:Objective? To analyze the hormone levels in male type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with benign thyroid nodules (NG). Methods? A total of 367 male patients with T2DM admitted to our hospital from April 2015 to April 2019 were divided into non-nodular group (164 cases) and nodular group (203 cases, including 92 cases of small nodule subgroup, 64 cases of middle nodule subgroup and 47 cases of large nodule subgroup). The hormone levels were compared in different groups. Results? There were significant differences in TSH and LH between non-nodular group and nodular group (P<0.05), while there was no significant difference in other indexes (P>0.05). The TSH in the small nodule subgroup, the middle nodule subgroup and the large nodule subgroup were (1.9±0.2) μIU/L, (2.8±0.4) μIU/L and (3.6±0.5) μIU/L, respectively, with significant difference (P<0.05); the LH were (7.3±1.9) mIU/L, (8.0±2.2) mIU/L and (8.9±2.6) mIU/L, respectively, with significant difference (P<0.05). The correlation analysis of nodule diameter with TSH and LH showed a significantly positive correlation (P<0.05). Conclusion? The imbalance of TSH and LH is closely related to benign NG in male patients with T2DM. Thyroid ultrasound should be regularly adopted in patients with T2DM with elevated TSH and LH.
