Abstract:Objective? To explore the relationship between ambulatory blood pressure parameters and cognitive function in elderly patients with hypertension. Methods A total of 182 elderly patients with primary hypertension hospitalized in Branch of Tianjin Third Central Hospital from June 2017 to June 2018 were selected as the hypertension group, and 200 non-hypertensive patients who underwent physical examination during the same period were selected as the normal control group. The cognitive function of the two groups was compared by Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale. According to the results of cognitive function assessment, the hypertension group was further divided into cognitive dysfunction group and normal cognitive function group. The ambulatory blood pressure parameters of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results The total score of Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale, language ability, abstraction ability, delayed recall ability and visual spatial executive ability of hypertension group were significantly lower than those of normal control group (P < 0.05). The systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and mean blood pressure drop rate in cognitive dysfunction group were significantly lower than those in normal cognitive function group (P < 0.05), and there was no significant differences in other ambulatory blood pressure parameters between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion It is suggested that hypertension patients should control blood pressure early and maintain normal circadian rhythm of blood pressure in order to prevent or delay cognitive impairment.
