Abstract:Objective? To investigate the preventive effect of bladder irrigation on urinary retention and urinary tract infection before catheter withdrawal. Methods A total of 217 patients with abdominal surgery in our hospital from 2014 to 2018 were randomly divided into observation group (109 cases) and control group (108 cases). Patients in the control group received routine urination training, and patients in the observation group received continuous bladder irrigation. The incidence of urinary tract infection and urinary retention was observed at 3, 5 and 7 days after operation. Results The incidence of urinary tract infection was significantly different between the two groups at 3, 5 and 7 days after operation (P<0.05). There was significant difference in the incidence of urinary retention at 3 days and 5 days after operation (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in the incidence of urinary retention at 7 days after operation (P>0.05). Conclusion Bladder irrigation can effectively prevent urinary tract infection and urinary retention after abdominal surgery.
