Abstract:Objective To compare the diagnostic efficiency of five mathematical red blood cell (RBC) indices in thalassemia (TT). Methods A total of 314 patients with microerythrocyte hypochromic anemia, including 137 iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and 177 TT, were selected from 2016 to 2018. By consulting relevant literature, we screened five mathematical RBC indices methods. Formula A: MCV/RBC. Formula B: MCV-10*RBC. Formula C: MCV-RBC-0.3*Hb. Formula D: MCV2*RDW/(Hb*10). Formula E: 1.91*RBC+0.40*MCHC. The diagnostic efficiency of the above methods was compared. Results The AUC ranged from 0.889 to 0.976, the diagnostic efficacy: Formula D>Formula E>Formula C>Formula A>Formula B. Conclusion Clinicians should choose the mathematical RBC indices method with high diagnostic efficiency as a non-genetic test for thalassemia.
