Abstract:Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery is recognized as one of the most challenging specialties in surgery due to its complex anatomy, high intraoperative risk, and high incidence of postoperative complications. Currently, there are still significant differences in the level of diagnosis and treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery across regions in China, with high-quality medical resources concentrated mainly in a few high-level medical centers, making it difficult for patients in areas with limited medical resources to access high-quality hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical care. Remote surgery is a medical approach that relies on remote communication technology, allowing surgeons away from the surgical site to control a robotic surgical system to perform the operation. The 5G-based remote-controlled robotic surgical system provides a new approach to alleviate the uneven distribution of high-quality medical resources in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, enhance the capabilities of grassroots surgery, and offer valuable time for the treatment of critically complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases, breaking through the limitations of traditional robotic surgery being confined to local operations. It has the potential to promote the balanced development of medical resource allocation in China.
