Pharmacological treatment of chronic venous diseases of the lower extremities
ZHAO Jun
Abstract:Chronic venous diseases(CVDs)of the lower ex-tremities are the most common vascular diseases that affect the physical health of adults.Even the symptoms are relatively mild, due to the symptoms and signs usually existing all year round, one's work efficiency could be reduced, and the quality of life doomed to be affected, consequently. In recent decades, some venoactive drugs(VADs)extracted from plants and some synthetic drugs were developed. They have the efficacy of anti-oxidant,and anti-inflammatory,protecting the function of vas-cular endothelial cells, maintaining venous tone, reducing ve-nous leakage, increasing venous or lymphatic flow, and indi-cate confirmed effects on releasing pain, swelling, heaviness, cramps, leg restlessness, and other symptoms,as well as ede-ma,skin sclerosis, ulcers and other signs of the CADs.The main drugs are micronized purified flavonoids,Ruscus extract,horse-chestnut extract,French maritime pine bark extract, red vine leaf extract, rutin, calcium dobesylate, etc.Pentoxifylline, one of the vasoactive drugs, and Sulodexide,as the vascular en-dothelial cell stabilizer, also have definite venous active ef-fects,and they are also recommended for the management of CVDs.
