Analysis of perioperative factors affecting postoperative survival in patients with rectal cancer and establishment of PNAG score
Abstract:Objective To evaluate the relationship between clinicopathologic factors and perioperative inflammation and postoperative survival of rectal cancer. Methods The clinicopathologic data, perioperative inflammatory indicators and follow-up data were retrospectively collected from 382 consecutive patients diagnosed as stage Ⅰ to Ⅲ rectal caners at the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from June 2007 to August 2012.Results The median follow-up time was 46 months. The 1-,3-and 5-year overall survival rates were 96.7%,85.6% and 77.4%,respectively.The 1-,3-and 5-year disease free survival rates were 86.9%,72.0% and 68.1%,respectively.Multivariate analysis found that age, pathologic TNM stages, gross types, vessel invasion and PNAG-score were independent prognostic factors for overall survival, while pathologic TNM stages, vessel invasion and PNAG-score were independent prognostic factors for disease free survival. Conclusion The postoperative survival of rectal cancer patients is influenced by both clinicopathologic risk factors and systemic inflammation. As a combined indicator of perioperative inflammation,PNAG-score shows an important role in survival assessment.
