Prevention and treatment of pancreatic fistula after radical gastrectomy

Abstract:Radical surgical resection is the main therapy of gastric cancer. Postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF)is one of the major complications that can occur after radical gastrectomy with lymphadenectomy. It may endanger the patients'lives if proper treatment could not be afforded. The POPF after radical gastric surgery is closely related with surgical procedures, technique of using metal forceps, the basic situation of pancreas and patients. Gastrointestinal surgeons should be aware of the risk factors of POPF and pay more attention on them,to secure an accurate procedure to prevent it as possibly. POPF after radical gastric surgery should adopt appropriate treatment based on classification to improve prognosis.
