Interpretation of the ASCRS Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Anorectal Abscess, Fistula-in-Ano, and Rectovaginal Fistula (2016)

Abstract:The clinical practice guideline for the management of anorectal abscess, fistula-in-ano, and rectovaginal fistula developed by the American society of colon and rectal surgeons (ASCRS) is based on the latest available evidence. The final grade of recommendation was performed by using the GRADE system. Compared with guideline(2011), strategies on the rectovaginal fistula were new contents. The guideline contains statement of the problem, methodology, recommendations, which includes initial evaluation of anorectal abscess and anal fistula, the management of anorectal abscess, fistula-in-ano, Crohn's disease and rectovaginal fistula. Clinical practice guidelines based on evidence could assist physicians to make individual decisions for patients.
