Principles to promote the enhanced recovery after surgery

Abstract:It has been 18 years since the concept of ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery)been proposed, and there has been 10 years experience since it was first applicated in China. Not only it was shortened in hospital stay but also reduction in surgical stress, pain and complications. All of which leads to the patients' fast recovery. ERAS is an integrated innovation, which involves multidisciplinary, including hospital administration and etc. The traditional clinical pathway has to be changed. Additional investigation has to be conducted on postoperative ileus and the recovery of intestinal function. Great effort should been made to the clinical applications of ERAS as well.
