Abstract:Catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) is the main treatment for acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of lower extremities. It can fast dissolve blood clots and has advantages of restoring venous patency, protection of the vein valve function and effectively reducing the incidence of post-thrombotic syndrome. The approaches currently used for CDT include the antegrade approach (via ipsilateral popliteal veins, great saphenous vein, small saphenous vein and the posterior tibial vein) and retrograde approach (via the internal jugular vein and the contralateral femoral vein). These approaches have advantages and disadvantages respectively, and there is no conclusion about how to choose.
