Factors related to prognosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor
ZHANG Bo
Abstract:Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common mesenchymal neoplasm in the gastrointestinal tract, which is with a low incidence and difficult to estimate the level of malignancy sometimes. However, some patients experienced tumor recurrence or metastasis postoperatively, even though complete resection was obtained. Accurate assessment of the malignant degree of GIST has a very important clinical significance to evaluate its prognosis and establish individualized treatment strategy. More recently, the further understanding of GIST leads to develop various types of criterion to estimate risk of postoperative recurrence. Prognostic factors of GIST include tumor location, size, mitotic index, rupture of tumor, gene mutation status and tumor immunohistochemical markers, etc.
