The enlightenment of the advances in modern surgery
LI Ning
Abstract:In the past 20 years, modern surgery has made much progress. In particular, with the advances of damage control surgery (DCS), extracorporeal life support, minimally invasive surgery and fast-track surgery, the essence of modern surgery has shifted from the traditionally-held“operation treating disease”to modern“minimizing the damage”. In these newly emerged fields, there are plenty of areas to explore, as well asmuch experience to summarize. The staged damage control principles, combined extracorporeal organ support and robot-assisted surgery all reflected the core concept of minimizing the damage. This is not only the direction of future surgery, but also the direction of future medical science.
