Abstract:Gastrointestinal tract is the major site of neuroendocrine neoplasms. Gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms include the stomach, duodenum, small intestine, appendix, colon and rectum neuroendocrine neoplasms. Surgery is the only treatment that may cure the patient with gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms and should always be considered as first line therapy. Even if the tumor can’t be completely removed, the debulking procedure can reduce the tumor burden for adjuvant chemotherapy and may prolong survival. Meanwhile, the operation can reduce the amount of hormone secreted by the tumor, reduce the corresponding clinical symptoms and improve the patients’quality of life. The surgeon should select the appropriate surgical procedures based on the tumor location, size, invasion, involvement of regional lymph nodes and metastasis.
