Essential path of professional development for respiratory therapists

Abstract：The professional development of respiratory therapy in China has a history of 30 years.In 2022,respiratory therapists were included in the Occupational Classification Code of the People's Republic of China,which marks that respiratory therapists have been officially recognized by the national authority.However,there is a long way to go for the professional development of respiratory therapists in China.A professional certification system for respiratory therapists should be implemented,and it is necessary to clarify the skill level assessment standards for respiratory therapists,standardize the medical fee catalog for respiratory therapists,and address the critical issue of ensuring that respiratory therapists receive appropriate benefits for their work;additionally,the respiratory therapist workforce should be further expanded to promote the development of respiratory therapists in China.
