Abstract:Objective To study the independent risk factors and MRI feature of different subtypes of cerebral infarction. Methods We included patients with acute cerebral infarction from the Department of Neurology of Peoples' Hospital of Peking University within three years from 2005 to 2007.We followed up the patients by telephone and electronic medical record to determine whether they belonged to recurrent group or not.Acording to Toast,we divided the cases into 5 subgroups. We recorded the clinical and image varialbles. We determined the independent risk factors for recurrent stroke in 5 years of each subtype by Cox regression. Results Leukoencephalopathy in MRI and being female were independent risk factors for recurrent stroke of large artery atherosclerosis infarcts in different circulations were independent risk factors for recurrent stroke of small artery occlusion lacunary-leukoencephalopathy and infarcts in different circulations in MRI were independent risk factors for recurrent stroke of other undetermined etiology. Conclusion Leukoencephalopathy and infarcts in different circulations in MRI are independent risk factors for recurrent stroke of different subtypes of cerebral infarctions. We emphasize the MRI features to be more important than conventional risk factors for the predition of recurrent stroke in each subtype of cerebral infarctions.
