Abstract:High-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH) refers to a condition in which the mean pulmonary artery pressure reaches 25 mmHg at rest, caused by the low oxygen level in a high-altitude environment.Mild HAPH is often a compensatory adaptive response to high-altitude hypoxia, whereas severe HAPH is life threatening as it could cause right-heart failure.HAPH could be cured if the patient is moved swiftly to low-altitude environment. For patients in serious conditions,NO inhalation could be prescribed,as well as oral medication such as Bosentan and sildenafil.
