Abstract:Antiviral treatment for children with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection should be started in the immune active phase.Therapeutic options available for children are currently limited, and interferon is the drug of first choice in most cases. However the individualized treatment needs be considered and potential adverse drug reactions should be kept vigilant against while interferon treatment for chronic HBV infection is being performed.Currently, although nucleos(t) ide analogues (NA) available are not the first choice, they can be used as the first choice only for those special children who can not use interferon and are experiencing rapid deterioration of liver function, suffering decompensated liver disease or receiving immunosuppressive or cytotoxic chemotherapy. However, the current and future treatment of the individual will be seriously affected by the emergence of viral resistance mutants to NA.Compared with monotherapy, the therapeutic strategy of interferon combined with NA has obtained better effect in children with chronic HBV infection, but further researches are still needed.
