The clinical value of determination of plasma endothelin in patients with acute intoxication
Abstract:Objective To study the clinical value of concentration of plasmaendothelin for patients with acute intoxication. Methods The concentrations of plasma endothelin were determined in 60 cases of patients with acute intoxication by radio-immunity or chromometry and compared with normal control group’s. Results Among patients with acute intoxication, concentration of plasma endothelin increased slightly at mild intoxication but no significant difference(P>0.05),while it increased markedly at moderate intoxication(P<0.01) and very markedly at severe intoxication(P<0.01). Conclusions The more severe intoxication, the higher concentration of plasma endothelin and this may be an important marker to judge the severity or prognosis of patients with acute intoxication. It has some value of clinical investigation in how to restrain the increasing of plasma endothelin thereby to increase the successful rate of resuscitation and decrease the mortality rate in patients with acute intoxication.
