Abstract:Objective To study the influence of diabetes on the CK activity in different tissues of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Methods Serum samples, heart and skeletal muscles, brain and bladder tissues were collected from both streptozocin-induced diabetic rats and control group. CK was measured by enzymatic method. Results The body weight, heart weight, and brain weight reduced significantly compared with control group( P < 0.01), but bladder weight increased significantly( P <0.01). CK activity in serum and skeletal muscles in diabetic rats was significantly lower( P <0.01);CK activity in diabetic heart was lower( P <0.01),in brain it was lower too( P <0.05). An extremely higher CK activity in diabetic bladder was found( P < 0.01). Conclusion Diabetes can result in a lower CK activity in serum, heart, brain, and skeletal muscles and may affect the energy metabolism in these tissues. A higher CK activity in diabetic bladder may reflect a functional compensatory mechanism.
