Abstract:A healthy temporomandibular joint is a prerequisite for the successful functioning of important oral and maxil-lary systems such as chewing, swallowing and speaking. In healthy people, when the jaw is in the intercuspal position, the condyle is located in the center of the articular fossa.Different diseases and treatments may lead to different degrees of differences in condylar position and morphology, and even lead to rattle and/or murmur in joint area, joint pain and/or masticatory muscle pain, abnormal jaw movement and other clinical symptoms.Cone beam CT,as a high resolution 3D imaging technology, can accurately measure the condylar changes, which provides an important basis for clinical diagno-sis and treatment. In this paper, the effects of age, related diseases and treatment methods on condylar position and mor-phological changes were reviewed, aiming to provide reference for clinical work and provide ideas for further research on the relationship between temporomandibular joint function and structure.
