Research progress in the application of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 in the repair of oral bone defects

Abstract：Growth factor-mediated bone augmentation surgery aims to accelerate wound healing and bone tissue recon-struction.Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2(rhBMP-2)has excellent osteoinductive ability,which can stimulate the proliferation,differentiation and migration of osteoblasts in the grafted area and induce the formation of new bone,thus repairing bone defects.In severe bone tissue defects,rhBMP-2 has certain advantages over traditional inva-sive surgery.Several clinical studies have evaluated the efficacy of rhBMP-2 in different clinical applications,including alveolar ridge preservation,maxillary sinus floor elevation,alveolar ridge bone augmentation,and simultaneous bone aug-mentation in implant surgery.Compared with traditional treatments,rhBMP-2 accelerates wound healing,relieves pain,and promotes angiogenesis in the grafted area,thereby inducing the formation of a large amount of new bone,improving the success rate of implantation,and ensuring the long-term stability of the implant.This article provides a review on the research progress of rhBMP-2 in the repair of oral bone defects.
