Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)protein and gene ampli-fication in oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC)and evaluate the value of EGFR in occurrence, development and prog-nosis of OSCC. Methods Immunohistochemical SP method and in situ chemical hybridization(FISH)were used to de-tect the expression of EGFR protein, gene amplification in 103 cases of OSCC and 30 cases of normal oral mucosa in par-affin-embedded tissue chip material. Results The positive rate of EGFR expresion in OSCC and normal oral mucosa tissues were 42.7%and 3.3%,respectively;the positive rate of EGFR gene amplification was 31.1%and 0,respectively. There were significant differences between OSCC and oral mucosa tissues in the expression and amplification of EGFR. The expression and amplification of EGFR in OSCC had no correlation with age, gender, size or differentiation degree of tumor(P>0.05),but were correlated with the lymph node metastasis and clinical stage(P<0.05). Conclusion EGFR is closely related to the occurrence and development of OSCC,and can be considered as an important index for determin-ing the biological behavior of OSCC.
