Experimental study of acoustic characteristic of vowel in normal people aged from 6 to 18

Abstract：Objective To study acoustic characteristics of vowel in normal people aged from 6 to18 for research and treatment in cleft palate speech. Methods 60 normal people who aged from 6 to18 was divided into three groups (Group A:6~12 years;Group B:13~15 years;Group C:16~18 years),with 10 males and 10 females in each group. The test material/a:/,/i:/,/u:/,was collected and analyzed by the first three formant frequency(F1、F2、F3)and fundamental frequency(F0)with VS-99 computer speech laboratory. Results (1)There was no significant difference in F1,F2,F3 and F0 among the three groups(P>0.05).(2)Significant difference was demonstrated in F0 between male and female in both group B and group C(P<0.05).(3)There was no significant difference in all the measure-ments in females among the three groups(P>0.05),but significant difference was demonstrated in F0 in males among the three groups(P<0.05). Conclusion We should establish different acoustic F0 standards due to different sex and age when evaluating cleft palate speech.
