Abstract:The placenta is a temporary organ that plays an important role in maintaining fetal growth and de-velopment during pregnancy,as well as mediating maternal adaptation to pregnancy.Abnormalities in placental development and/or impaired function of the placenta will lead to pregnancy-related diseases, such as preeclampsia.Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-related disease that occurs after 20 weeks of pregnancy, characterized by clinical symptoms such as hyperten-sion and proteinuria. The etiology of preeclampsia is very complex, but previous studies have found that the main cause of preeclampsia is abnormal development and/or dysfunction of the placenta. The root cause of preeclampsia is the release of"toxic factors"into the maternal circulation by the dysfunctional placenta.Based on the normal development of the placenta and its regulatory mechanisms, this article discusses the models and techniques for research in preeclampsia, new advances in basic research and their potential application.
